About Braces

At what age should the patient first be seen?

Ideally orthodontists like to see patients for an initial assessment between the ages of 7-10 years. It may seem quite young, but there is usually a best time to carry out orthodontic treatment and some problems benefit from early treatment.

For most problems the orthodontist will wait until all the baby teeth have been lost before starting active treatment. This means that most patients start their treatment in the early teens.

If the problem is complex or facial growth modification is required, it is recommended to start at an earlier age.
